What comes next is a man who approaches, leans over and let's you know that he recognizes you from "Mulhalland Drive". As always Susan, you captured the moments and whimsically painted them into words. I enjoyed the pictures they translated into in my mind.
Enjoying the vicarious journey!

An awkward beginning, but it became such a fun sounding evening. When I was single, I braved dining alone on a Friday night. Now THAT takes bravery! Although, I did allow intimidation in and at times, picked up food to go and dined in front of the television. Not as much fun. lol.

Oh Diana, Acqui Terme is such a lovely town! We had the same welcoming experience there. I love your statement "Tables felt more lonely there." That is the perfect way to describe it. Thanks for taking the time to respond :)

Nice. I could feel it. It reminded me of several instances in my life where work or circumstance had caused me to dine alone. When it would happen here in Acqui Terme when I would come to check our construction project, it was always a pleasure because the locals always took care of me and were charming, making doubly sure I was comfortable. In the States, my eyes always searched for a bar the restaurant that I could sit at and read my paper. Tables felt more lonely there.

Oh Susan, Susan, Susan! We're so lucky you're not Marcia Brady. I would much rather read your amazing adventures of the Pohlman family in Italy and your book tour moments than hear another word about Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!

When my husband and I went to Chicago, I took out my camera when downtown. My husband looks at me and says, "Put that away when we are ready to hail a cab. They can smell a tourist with a camera and will take you off the beaten track to get more money. Also, you have to know where you are going or they will take all the side streets." The only bad cab we rode in tried to work the lights to make more money on us. We told her to stop, and even opened the door as she was crawling towards another light. We walked several blocks to our car from Wrigley Field. lol. I'm glad you were safe.
