Signings are not usually lucrative. It’s not about that, more so building that all important ‘awareness’. Especially for YA and children’s authors whose majority of audience doesn’t know of RSS or Twitter.

I found much more success from actually walking into the store and sparking up conversation with introducing myself. A strength of mine is engaging in person, its done pretty well for us.

One more thing, make your signing not a signing where you sit behind a table quietly, which I believe is a mistake for any author. What you want to do is make it an event! We stand up and engage people, passers by, we get staff involved, we hold a new competition every signing and this does pretty well for us. We’ve made a couple of store records with our signing ‘events’.

If your memorable and have a great gig, the store will pass your name around to other stores too!
